astrophotography – Will my thinpix s8600 suffice for the milky way

I plan to buy a digital SLR soon, but impatience caused me I decided to take the bridge camera from my mother, 4 years old, and take a picture, I took pictures in an area slightly polluted by light, and it seemed to have attracted every star that I could see with my own eyes (there were not many). My problem is that I see people recommend a 10 second exposure with an 800 iso, the camera limits the shutter to 8 seconds up to 1600 iso and 2 seconds to 3200 and 6400. Will it be enough to capture the milky way?
