linux – How can I change a SMART attribute value?

SMART is essentially read-only.

You can change the value by solving the underlying problem and allowing the reader to solve it himself (if he can!).

From a similar question, "How should I understand the" Current number of sectors waiting "

Later, when some of these sectors are read successfully, the value is diminished.

Note the two things that must happen:

  1. Sector must be read
  2. Reading must succeed

If the hard drive sector has suffered permanent damage, this number will be never go back to zero. I like to replace hard drives when this happens and let the redundancy of their RAID configuration or mirror configuration solve this problem.
