london – When we change trains, when should we use standalone yellow validators?

When using Oyster PAYG or contactless for train travel, it is sometimes necessary to touch and then touch when changing trains. This is sometimes obvious because there are ticket counters or no validator on the exchange.

However, if there are autonomous validators, it may not be clear whether the validators should be used when changing trains on Oyster / contactless, or only if the start or end of a PAYG trip (such as passage to / from a National Rail paper ticket to / from a station outside the oyster area).

So, how do you know if you have to touch and enter?

I've personally found the following confusing (mainly from the subway to / from the national rail):

  • Finsbury Park
  • Lewisham
  • Tottenham Hale
  • Walthamstow Central
  • Cheshunt (using route without walking by road)
