Great news for those who love the V-Ray rendering engine, Chaos Group has officially taken over the development and commercialization of V-Ray for Cinema 4D. Previously, the V-Ray for C4D plug-in was developed by LAUBLab. Since November 1, 2018, he is now under the control of the inventors of V-Ray, Chaos Group.
According to their recently published FAQ, V-Ray for C4D will soon match other versions of V-Ray listed in its feature list. They have already released a version 3.7 that seems to be similar to the previous version 3.6, but now offers their online license server (OLS).
Once a fully developed Cinema 4D plug-in is available, this could make V-Ray a real competitor taking the case of Redshift, Arnold and Octane. The move makes sense after Arnold's acquisition of Autodesk, giving users of Maya and 3ds Max the Arnold Solid Angle rendering engine with their Autodesk license. Thus, by building a Cinema 4D plugin, Chaos Group intends to make waves in the C4D space, while continually fighting against the other rendering engines used in big films and commercial spaces.
