security – Would there be any actual secure, server side way to lock away react routes?

So I don’t know what I am asking is even possible but is there any way, like you can do with static HTML and CSS websites to only let a person see the “/test” route for example if they are verified?

I know this is possible with react-router-dom but as a perfectionist, I want to do it server side with preferably express and my own middleware (using JWT and MongoDB) to check user identities ETC.

Thanks a lot!

crash – Macbook restarts because of panic error, what is the actual cause?

Is this a hardware problem or software problem? How can we rectify?

This is what i was doing while it happened opened vs code a folder. it was mounted on xampp while the opened folder files was copying from another location to xampp htdocs. What I know is xampp works in mac like USB mount unmount. What i need to know is whether it is a mac hardware issue or just a software crash

macos – Size on disk smaller than actual size

I have Bitwarden on my machine and looked at the reported file size, wich is 423,6MB. The downloaded file is much smaller, also the reported size on disk is much smaller too with 176,5MB

enter image description here

I expected if anything that the size on disk would always be larger due to block size, but not smaller. How can this be?

How does Shadowrun 4 differ from the previous editions – from an Actual Play viewpoint?

We have been playing a Shadowrun 4th Edition game for a very long time now. I find the rules system to be much easier to understand/operate, and the dice rolling is pretty straightforward. I have been playing Shadowrun since 2nd Edition, and personally, I think 4th is the best yet.

Setting wise, the biggest new addition (as Numenetics stated) is the wireless Matrix. Also, now that machines are talking with WiFi, so are Meta-Humans – The Technomancer, a “hacker” that uses a Magic like stat called Resonance to “Thread” bonuses to programs, and summon “Sprites” to do their bidding is now a character option.

There are a lot of great optional rules, like taking “automatic successes” (your dice pool / 4 = number of hits) which allows you to quite easily run a diceless forum game alongside your sit down game. We have taken full advantage of that system in our very long campaign…

The main system difference is that the “Target number” for rolling is ALWAYS 5… I.E, 5 and 6 are the only #’s that ever “hit”. 6’s do not “explode” like in previous versions unless you use your “Edge” stat. Also, instead of increasing or decreasing target numbers, things increase and decrease Threshold/Pool size.

I would be happy to try to address more specific inquiries into the 4th edition as well, if there is something you were interested in knowing that I didn’t mention…

dnd 5e – Is the Cloak of Many Fashions ability an illusion or an actual physical change?

The Cloak of Many Fashions is found in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything and says:

While wearing this cloak, you can use a bonus action to change the
style, color, and apparent quality of the garment. The cloak’s weight
doesn’t change. Regardless of its appearance, the cloak can’t be
anything but a cloak. Although it can duplicate the appearance of
other magic cloaks, it doesn’t gain their magical properties.

My question is does the actual physical shape of the cloak change, or is it entirely an illusion? The description mostly seems to imply to me the former, except for the line where the cloak’s weight doesn’t change. If I for example changed a cloak made of lace into one made of cloth of gold its weight should absolutely change. That it explicitly doesn’t implies illusion.

On the other hand, there are definitely spells and enchantments that change the size of an object without changing its weight. The Pole of Collapsing, also from Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, explicitly physically changes a 10-foot pole to a 1-foot-long rod without changing its weight.

On the gripping hand, the line ‘regardless of its appearance, the cloak can’t be anything but a cloak’ seems to imply that it can appear to be other things but remains physically a cloak. Or that could be taken to mean that you can change its appearance however you like as long as it remains a cloak.

What say you?

bashrc – Saving the date to actual bash history file

When adding “HISTTIMEFORMAT” to bashrc, the timestamps of when a command was executed are made available when running the “history” command.

But the timestamps themselves are not saved to the bash_history file (atleast not in plain text).

I am looking for a solution that will write the timestamp to the file itself so that archived .bash_history files from various workstations can be viewed in an editor outside the userspace and still contain the timestamps of when commands were executed.

If the timestamps are being saved to the history file itself but just not viewable in an editor when opening the bash_history file, and it is still possible to view these timestamps by using the history command itself on a rogue bash history file, then that would also suffice.

dnd 5e – Divine spellcasting aside, can the actual symbol of a deity have any effects which are not purely symbolic?

I wasn’t able to find much lore regarding effects of holy symbols apart from “allows divine spellcasters to channel deity energy” and “require blessing from associated church to work”. The logic seems to be that the symbol acts as a target (i.e. casting “focus”) to direct the divine magic being channeled, and must therefore be paired with the deity like a bluetooth device to function.

What would happen if an underground church of an evil god went around carving the god’s emblem into the forehead of everyone they could find, blessing it each time?

There is precedent that gods have agency of their own and can perform varying levels of action upon mortals without needing assistance from divine spellcasters, so would this allow the god to channel divine magic into/through these people? Would it simply make them easier to target?

What would be the difference if the symbol had instead been applied to a clumsy peasant tripping forehead-first onto a badly (or well) placed red-hot branding iron for the symbol? In this case what if the inadvertently branded symbol was later secretly blessed by the relevant church?

In the case of a birthmark matching the holy symbol, it was not created specifically to be the symbol but matches coincidentally. Does this differ from an application of the actual symbol, accidental or intentional?

To be very specific, I’m asking about any implications that would differentiate well known holy symbols widely associated with a particular deity from any other symbol (or quasi-religious icon) which could be constructed in an identical manner but lacks any preexisting association with a god. This is not about mundane or social effects like identifying membership in a certain group.
