driving – As a Hungarian national, can I enter the Schengen area through Austria, while traveling from Tanzania?

I plan on traveling to Zanzibar, Tanzania. I would drive from Budapest to Vienna, then fly from there though either Doha or Dubai. As far as I know, this part of my itinerary would be difficulty-free, at least when it comes to coronavirus-related border closures and travel restrictions.

However, I’m not sure whether the same can be said about the return journey. I have been browsing this site for general information about the restrictions. I haven’t found the answer.

The question: is it possible for me to travel to Austria from Tanzania? The site doesn’t list my African destination in either the “open borders” or the “high-risk countries”, so I’m not sure whether it’s possible at all.

Thanks.

driving – As a Hungarian national, can I enter the Schengen area through Austria without a test, while traveling from Tanzania?

I plan on traveling to Zanzibar, Tanzania. I would drive from Budapest to Vienna, then fly from there though either Doha or Dubai. As far as I know, this part of my itinerary would be difficulty-free, at least when it comes to coronavirus-related border closures and travel restrictions.

However, I’m not sure whether the same can be said about the return journey. I have been browsing this site for general information about the restrictions.

The first part of my question: is it possible for me to travel to Austria from Tanzania? The site doesn’t list my African destination in either the “open borders” or the “high-risk countries”, so I’m not sure whether it’s possible at all.

The second part: The above site confirms it is possible to skip the testing/quarantine in Austria if you are only transiting through the country. Since I plan on driving back to Budapest immediately after arriving from Zanzibar, this condition will be met. However, the form I will have to fill clearly says that I will need to produce some evidence, such as ticket, taxi booking, etc., to prove that I actually intend to leave the country. Since I will be driving my own car, there will be no such document. Could it be a problem?

Thanks.

usa – How to minimize tolls when driving past NYC

When driving up or down the Eastern seaboard GPS and navigation apps all seem route me through New York City, leaving me to deal with the exorbitant bridge tolls. My most recent trip cost me over $50 in tolls, mostly because the GPS insisted on sending me into, then out of, NYC. Seeing as how the high tolls are presumably meant to deter city traffic, you’d think there would be a way for drivers to opt out of driving through the city. But of course, asking Google Maps or Waze to avoid tolls gives me the completely toll-free route, which adds many unnecessary hours to my trip by avoiding every toll along the way. So, my question is: how can I avoid or minimize the NYC tolls if I just want to go past New York and not enter it?

driving – Is there a Google Maps like app that shows directions and other people’s progress along the same route?

I’m looking for an app that not only shows a route with directions (like Google Maps) but also tracks friends following the same route, with all of them showing at the same time. Think of it as Find my Friends + Google Maps.

The reasoning behind this request is that I’m trying to organize a trip, and thought it would be nice to see where my friends are relative to me so far on the route, somewhat like the map in Mario Kart.

installation – All I Want To Do Is Install Magento2 and all I get are problems!!!!! It’s driving me mad!

honestly I’ve been driven mad by various online guides on how to install Magento2 on CentOS only to find there’s some certain version of PHP I need, or finding out that the web installer does not work – or even the CLI installer won’t work. After spending days trying to figure it all out, then dealing with Magento2 errors like permissions, missing files, etc I got it to work.

So, I’ve put up my own A,B,C guide for anyone who is struggling to get Magento2 to install and work, especially on CentOS.

I really hope it helps – because believe me, there’s nothing worse that an “install guide” that just doesn’t work!!

Let’s get started then!

So first off, you’ll need Magento2 downloaded. I’m using Magento CE 2.4.0 (2020-07-24-11-08-21):
If the zip file you download from Magento is different then,
Just do a Google/Bing search for:
magento-ce-2.4.0-2020-07-24-11-08-21.zip

If you can’t find it, it’s here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hleqyqyecsrkl86/magento-ce-2.4.0-2020-07-24-11-08-21.zip?dl=0

Next you’ll need CentOS 7.0. I’m using Magento CentOS 7 (Minimal 2003):
If the zip file you download from CentOS is different then,
Just do a Google/Bing search for:
CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-2003.iso

If you can’t find it, it’s here:
http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/centos/7.8.2003/isos/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-2003.iso

A. Install And Configure CentOS 7 for Magento 2.4.0

Right, we’ll need to update CentOS and install Magento2 required files
please note, these can be version specific – but this guide ensures the versions are 100% correct.

Ask your insurance provider whether they cover in Canada or USA. If they say yes, get it in writing and carry it with you. Without evidence in English, US officials will assume you’re uninsured.

If they say no, you can get coverage by the day from a travel insurance company. I’ve always got mine from Allianz, but there are many others.

driving – Inverted Speed Limit sign in South Korea

Can anyone tell me the meaning of this South Korean street sign?

It looks like a speed limit to me, but the colors are inverted (white font on black instead of black font on white). I searched different websites that deal with driving abroad, but I can’t find anything. Wikipedia does not have it either.

I was able to translate the text in the bottom one (“school zone from here, slow down”), but I also found signs with the exact same text that have a normal (black on white) speed limit printed on them.

I wonder whether this is just a variant of the regular speed limit or whether it holds any special meaning that I should be aware of.

Can I pass a driving license in B.C. Canada with a valid visa but without being a resident of Canada?

Background information

I am a Swiss citizen and I used to live in Vancouver, BC, Canada for the past 6 years and I moved to Switzerland three months ago. I hold a class 7 drivers license from ICBC (the authority for delivering driving license in British Columbia).

The class 7 driver’s license has some driving restrictions and for this reason the Swiss authorities refuse the transfer my Canadian driver’s license into a Swiss driving license. I therefore have two options; I either pass the license in Switzerland or I fly back to BC, to get a class 5 driver’s license for which the Swiss authorities have signed me a letter that they will accept it even if I pass the class 5 license while not being a Canadian resident.

Note that passing the driving license in Switzerland is a lengthy process and costs about 2000 CHF (including the so-called L2 phase) if I don’t take any lesson. In comparison getting my class 5 would take the time of the flights plus a few hours over there and would cost 50 CAD (I don’t count the costs of the flights as I will need to fly back to B.C. at some point during the year anyway).

I meant to pass my class 5 driving license before leaving Canada but covid-19 decided differently.

Question

I am now a Swiss resident and national with a valid student visa in Vancouver BC Canada and a valid class 7 driving license. Can I pass a class 5 driving test in B.C. without being a BC resident? Will my visa be enough or do I have to justify residency in B.C. to be allowed to pass the driving test?

Note that I do not pay for Medical Services Plan (MSP) in Canada anymore. But I paid my taxes for last year in Canada and I am technically still enrolled as a student at the University (UBC). Note also that it has be stipulated to the Canadian government that I do not leave in Canada anymore as I had to cancel the child benefit I was receiving for my son (who is Canadian).
