itunes – Music app only shows an outdated music library after I’ve retrieved it from BackUp, even though all songs are listed in Finder

I made a clean reinstallation of my MacBook Pro a few days ago due to a problem that had been bugging me for a while now. And, among other things, I tried to retrieve my music library back to the music app. It was the folder „iTunes“.
To get all the settings back I’ve opened the file “iTunes Library.itl“. But unfortunately, it seems to be completely outdated (it’s from late 2019!) which also shows in the music app. There are only songs and playlists listed up to that date, even though the songs in the iTunes Media folder (or to be more specific, in username/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music) are all up to date.

I suspect that this happened because of the outdated .itl-file. How can I get back the settings I’ve had a few days back with all my playlists and songs? Or at least, where were the settings I’ve had before the reinstallation saved? I mean, they should have been saved somewhere.

If nothing works, then I’d have to try to sync my iPhone with the Mac. But I’d like to avoid that if possible. For one, because it’s not really up to date (the last time I’ve synchronized it with my Mac was 3 weeks ago). But mainly because of 2 reasons: I’ve lost pretty much all the thumbnails due to an update a few years ago (the thumbnails of all songs have been replaced by an album cover…) and some smart playlists somehow don’t contain all the songs that should have been listed there.

windows – stopped (err = -3253) iTunes

iTunes error message when downloading music stopped (err = -3253) the network connection was reset.
this message will pop up once or twice before it will download the song. It will eventually download the content, after I’ve cycled through the same error message a couple of times. Been on the phone with apple support for 3+ hours with no success in fixing this annoying error message. Running McAfee anti-virus, disabled McAfee and same error occurs. Any advice, anyone else get this error??? or is it apple being dicks to windows users again…

itunes – Laptop doesn’t recognize my Iphone

I need to connect my Iphone to iTunes, when it’s plugged in, iphone starts to charge but there is no notification,and also nothing in device manager, i installed correct 64 bit iTunes and what comes with it, a driver, I tried it on 2 other laptops and one computer,also I checked it with 2 cables. Service is setted on automatic and i tried to restart it, no result.

itunes – Manually managed media from Mac does not have proper metadata on ios

I’m trying to copy music from macOS 10.15.7 Catalina to ipadOS 14. This is the first time I’ve had to manage media sync since iTunes has been deprecated and is it just me or is the new sync completely broken!

The mac’s music library is a newly created one and wasn’t upgraded from itunes and the ipad is brand new. All the metadata in the mac’s music application appears correctly.

In the finder set ipad to “Manually Manage Music…”. Drag in a couple of folders from the music library. Checking the music app on the ipad only shows 1 artist out of about 5. Albums show as individual songs and song names display the genre. Broken.

Wipe all the Manually Managed Music. Turn off Manually Manage Music. Turn on Sync Music to iPad and sync selected artists, albums, etc…

Select a few playlists and sync. Metadata on ipad now appears OK. But now, there only 1 list browser in the finders music sync (it used to have all 4 lists (artist, album, genre and playlist on the 1 view). Checking a genre to sync, say “rock”, then going to the album or artist list doesn’t have all the rock artists and albums checked. Broken.

So It seams that syncing via the finder is broken.

Open the Music Application on the Mac. The iPad appears in the list. Drag some songs from the son list to the iPad. It syncs. Check the iPad. The artists are there, the albums are there, the songs display the genre for the title. Broken.

How are you meant to reliably sync music now?

Adjust path for iTunes / Music files after files move

I moved all my music library to a network drive. So now all my library is messed up as Music (former iTunes) can not find the files. I have to manually set the path for each file I want to play (~3500) files. I tried to grep -r '/Volumes/S_Drive/Music/Music/' to see which file I could replace the paths in my home but it came up with nothing. So guess the music library is saved somewhere else. I would like to run this in one step instead of having to adjust paths manually every time. Cheers, EL

ios – Music on iPhone/iPad grouped bizarrely despite being fine on iTunes

I have some ‘albums’ in my iTunes library that look fine to me:

However, when I sync them to my phone and iPad, they become grouped in really weird ways:

If I play the album, all the songs are actually on the device:

I just can’t see them in the actual listing.

I thought it might be the “Grouping” field in iTunes, but it’s empty for all the songs, and the behaviour persists (even after several of the files have been replaced).

How do I get my devices to show me all my songs, not these weirdly grouped swap ins? I’m on Windows, if it makes a difference.

iphone – Does restoring a local backup using iTunes enable activation lock?

Let’s say I have an Apple ID that’s been disabled/locked for security reasons.

  • This account is linked to my iPhone and in order to remove it or to simply disable find my iPhone, I have to answer the security questions on the account which I don’t remember anymore. So basically the account is glued to the device with FMI enabled.
  • So then I get a new phone and restore a local iTunes backup that I made of the old phone with the account issue on to the new phone.

FMI shows as enabled on the new phone’s settings but I am not sure it’s actually enabled. IMEI checker sites such as imeipro show that it’s disabled but I want to get your opinion on the matter. I want to format the new phone and worry it too will become activation locked.

How can I restore iPhone from iTunes Backup BUT keep iCloud Notes?

I lost my old iphone SE (gen 1) and most recent backup was 6 months ago (iTunes, no iCloud backup). I want to restore to a new iPhone SE (gen 2020) with the older iTunes backup BUT keep or somehow download all of my recent iCloud Notes (I do backup Notes and Contacts to iCloud). I do see in iCloud Account Advanced settings that I can restore to an iCloud Contact version, but how do this with notes? BTW, I’m using Windoz 2010 not a Mac.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
