LowEndBoxTV: How to Get DirectAdmin for FREE!

LowEndBoxTVDirectAdmin is a serious challenger to cPanel and is the hosting panel that’s taking over the world. Did you know that there are many providers who offer FREE DirectAdmin licenses? In this video we’ll tell you how you can get a FREE DirectAdmin license to use on your cheap VPS.

Special thanks to @PandoGulf on LowEndTalk for leading a LET thread that collected all the info!

In this video we highlight several providers who offer DirectAdmin for free:

  • NexusBytes is a very highly respected provider in our community and consistently drop amazing offers for our readers. I’m looking at an offer for the EntryBytes line they offered in April and you can get service for as cheap as $3.19 per month in the Netherlands with free DirectAdmin and Blesta, and that’s for a 3GB VM with 1.5TB of bandwith.
  • BuyVM will give you free DirectAdmin and Blesta, and also Softaculous and Windows Server if you need it. They’re in Las Vegas, New York, and Luxembourg starting at around $3.50 per month with 1GB of RAM and unmetered bandwidth.
  • Hostodo has VMs in Las Vegas and Miami and offers free DirectAdmin. In March they posted an offer on LowEndBox for a VM with 4TB of transfer and a free DA license for only $29.99 per year.
  • If you’re looking for a VPS in New Jersey or Los Angeles and want a free DirectAdmin personal license, you might check out InterServer. The personal license only allows 10 domains but for a lot of folks that might be enough.
  • HostSlick is another provider who gives out a free personal license, and they’re in the Netherlands. They had an offer on LowEndBox back in February for a 3GB KVM with 5TB of bandwidth and DDoS protection for 40 euros a year.
  • GreenCloudVPS offers service in an astonishing 29 locations and will give you a free DirectAdmin standard license on any plan with 2GB of RAM or more.
  • Xinix is offering free DA with their US, UK, Netherlands, and Romanian plans.

And there are others, and other licenses/panels some providers offer for free as well.  Check out the LET thread for full details!

LowEndBoxTV: Your Own Self-Hosted DNS Using NSD

LowEndBoxTV Video on NSD If you’ve wanted to run your own DNS server but were a bit intimidated by BIND, this is the video for you. We take you through installing and configuring a 2-node DNS server setup using NSD, including setting up zone transfers and creating DNS records.

NSD is remarkably simple to use and takes a lot of the complexity out of the server part of running a DNS server.  The records are still a bit arcane but we’ll walk through the basics there.  If you need a caching nameserver, NSD isn’t for you, but if you just need a simple way to take a couple cheap VPS servers and authoritatively publish your DNS, NSD is a great solution.

This is an update to a tutorial we did quite a while ago, and goes a bit further as the video covers zone transfers.
