motherboard – MSI Z370 Pro Carbon Limited to Four USB 2.0 for Front Panel?

I have had this problem for a while now and I have just assumed from my MSI Z370 Pro Carbon spec sheet it can only supply full power to 4 USB 2.0 ports in the front panel. Well my chassis has 2 front 2.0 ports and I have a SD Card Reader in a 5.25 inch expansion bay that has 4 2.0 ports. The 4 2.0 ports on the SD Card Reader are fully powered while the 2.0 Ports on the front of the chassis are in a lower power state and will only accept certain devices. From looking at the spec sheet it clear stays a total of 6 USB 2.0 Ports can be used. 2 on the IO of the motherboard and 4 for the front panel. My question is since my motherboard only supports 4 USB 2.0 ports on the front panel is there a hardware limitation or a hardware problem?

I will provide links to the spec sheet of the motherboard as well as an Amazon link for the SD Card Reader which has a list of specs of the device.

usability – Is the Floating Side Panel / Icons affect the UX?

There is nothing wrong with having a floating static menu that follows the page as it scrolls.

In fact, this very site (and all SE sites) have pretty much the same concept with how the menu works (to the left). Sure, it is a little dynamic in some parts, but for the most part it follows the user as the view the contents of the page.

The benefit is that regardless of how far the user scrolls, they can still easily access the features they they want to get to without having to scroll back to the top. This is a good thing for the user experience.

However, there are a couple of considerations to be aware of that could result in a bad design if not careful:

  • Make sure the floating menu isn’t able to overlap any of the page content. It would be annoying if a user is unable to read something because the menu is obscuring it.
  • Make sure the menu includes features that the user will likely want to use. It is no good having a fixed menu if the user isn’t interested in any of the items. Don’t have one just for the sake of it.

I noticed some weird traffic in my router’s admin panel logs:

The address of my router is 192.168.100.1 and it leases addresses only for 192.168.100.0/24, yet some unknown A class private IPs that were never connected to my network tried to access the panel in the early hours. The event logging is quite verbose so each operation of making changes to the configuration (including deleting entries) is explicitly mentioned, however in this case there were only login attempts, one of which was successful.

Is it possible that these were my ISP’s attempts or am I a target of the attack?

I have a link do Dynamic365, i have name, link to icon which is 60×60 .jpg and Description set, but for some reason i just cannot save changes, the button is just grayed out. Can some one tell me, what am i doing wrong here? This should not be this hard as soo you have all this values set so, this is so odd.

I have been trying to test it in other tenant i have, but same thing.

plotting – Make a nice panel figure, with a 3D plot

There are some solutions on how to make nice panel figures, for example, or the SciDraw package. By nice, I mean reasonably presentable – without miles of space in between figures, and plots within the panel have consistent sizes and fonts, and the labels are inline from plot to plot. I’m not asking for much.

However, I wantinclude a panel figure which has a 3D plot in it. I’m finding it very difficult with the padding in GraphicsGrid. For example,

plot1 = Plot3D[Sin[x/100 + y^2], {x, -300, 300}, {y, -2, 2},
   ColorFunction -> "RedBlueTones", Boxed -> False ,
   LabelStyle -> {FontSize -> 13, FontFamily -> "Helvetica", Black},
   AxesLabel -> {"x axis label", "y axis label", "z value", " "},
   PlotLabel -> "3D Map",
   ViewPoint -> {1.9660038626106877, 2.036484683486844,
     1.8540655182930692},
     ViewVertical -> {-0.38056099743618316, -0.39420402835939466,
     0.836526455801371}];

plot2 = DensityPlot[Sin[x/100 + y^2], {x, -300, 300}, {y, -2, 2},
   PlotRange -> All, PlotPoints -> 200,
   ColorFunction -> "RedBlueTones", PlotLabel -> "Density Plot",
   FrameLabel -> {{"x axis label", " "}, {"y axis label", " "}},
   LabelStyle -> {FontSize -> 13, FontFamily -> "Helvetica", Black}];

plot3 = Plot[{Sin[x/100 + 0]}, {x, -300, 300}, PlotRange -> All,
   Frame -> True, FrameLabel -> {"y axis label", " z label"},
   AspectRatio -> 1,
   LabelStyle -> {FontSize -> 13, FontFamily -> "Helvetica", Black},
   PlotLabel -> "x axis cut"];
plot4 = Plot[{Sin[0 + y]}, {y, -2, 2}, PlotRange -> All,
   Frame -> True, FrameLabel -> {"x axis label", " z label"},
   AspectRatio -> 1,
   LabelStyle -> {FontSize -> 13, FontFamily -> "Helvetica", Black},
   PlotLabel -> "y axis cut"];

GraphicsGrid[{{plot1, plot2}, {plot3, plot4}},
 ImageSize -> {1000, 1000}]

You can see the output, each plot is a different size, with massive gaps between the figures. I’ve played about with padding on GraphicsGrid, but that hasn’t been very helpful. The titles are at different heights. It doesn’t look great. Any suggestions on improvements?
