air travel – Does Qatar Airways have a no-show fee in case a passenger misses a flight (assuming the passenger only purchased a flight ticket and nothing else)?

https://www.qatarairways.com/tradepartner/en/bookingnticketing/Penalties-and-Charges.html states:

No-Show Charge: The charge made by reason of the failure of a passenger to use reserved accommodation, either through failure to arrive at the airport at the time fixed by the carrier, or through arriving improperly documented or otherwise not ready to travel on flight.

From my understanding, this means that Qatar Airways may charge a no-show fee in case a passenger misses a flight (even if the passenger only purchased a flight ticket and nothing else, i.e. didn’t book any hotel).

However I read some comments that contradict my understanding:

  • To me, it is quite clear that the hotel will want to be paid for accomodation you reserved, but did not pay for, because it could have been used by someone else. The flight has been paid for in advance, but the room was only reserved. So it is no-show as applicable to the accomodation, not the flight. – Weather Vane 10 mins ago

What does “PAX” mean on a Qatar Airways flight ticket?

What does "PAX" mean on a Qatar Airways flight ticket?

Typically, PAX=passenger, but in that case I don’t understand why the ticket says "passenger" there.

air travel – What will happen to Qatar flights from Doha if there is an airspace closure?

At the moment, they can still ‘escape’ via Iran, like this picture from FlightRadar24 shows:

enter image description here

and from there to Turkey and Europe. As Alexander notes, this is because they can still use the Bahrain airspace; Bahrain committed to the IASTA which forbids them to close the airspace to other members, like Qatar.

More information can be found here.

In any case, you should definitely pay attention to any information regarding your flight, and you can expect it to take a little longer because of the detour.

legal – Are visitors affected by family law of UAE and Qatar?

Does the family law of UAE and Qatar apply to people who transit the airport, or who stay for not more than 1 day and enter the country for that purpose?

Especially laws about child custody.

UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) and Qatar have quite big international flight hubs. The family law in these countries is quite different. AS far as I’m informed, women have the sole right and responsibility to care for a child there. And men have the right to determine where the child is supposed to live. For that sake men can also impose a flight ban on a child.

Does all this apply to transistors at the airport or other short term visitors?

For example:

Assume an mother lives with the child in Poland. She has sole custody and parental responsibility (but only in Poland). She flied to the Maldives for holiday with the child. She transits through Dubai.

Assume the father lives in Spain. Can the father issue a “flight ban” in the Dubai airport for the child? Can he prevent the child from transiting? Can he make the child to be held in UAE and to be disallowed to leave UAE until the child come of age? Can the pick-up the child or otherwise arrange the child to be transferred to Spain, because in UAE he has the right to decide where the child shall live ?

qatar – Doha Layover – Leave the Airport?

Note that the tours described below are suspended until at least August 31, 2021 due to COVID restrictions.

Qatar Airways offers tours of Doha for passengers on layovers:

Enrich every step of your journey with a complimentary tour of Doha, courtesy of Qatar Airways and Qatar Tourism Authority. Visit four key landmarks including: The Pearl-Qatar, for the finest quality shops and restaurants; Katara Cultural Village, a centre dedicated to celebrating arts and heritage; Souq Waqif, for traditional jewellery, spices and handicrafts; and the Museum of Islamic Art, for its stunning architecture and beautiful seaside park. All of this, while you wait to connect with your next flight.

There are six tours per day (the first departing at 8 AM), and each tour lasts about two hours and 45 minutes.

At one point these tours were complementary, and the visa-on-arrival fee was included; but this no longer appears be the case.

Qatar Airways cancelled the flight, but I cannot get a refund. What can I do?

My girlfriend booked a flight from MUC to CGK:

  • MUC -> CGK: 22.05.2021
  • CGK -> MUC: 13.05.2021

Yesterday Qatar Airways wrote her that the flight MUC -> CGK is no longer available. They offer her to fly one day later (23.05.2021, “Acknowledge changes”) or “Request a refund”:

enter image description here

She wants to fly one day earlier instead (21.05.2021) and keep the flight back. This is available and even cheaper. So we clicked on “Request a refund”. Then we get redirected to the general help page:

enter image description here

There I can see a German call center. I called this multiple times during the day, but they always directly hang up. I don’t even hear them taking the call.

I’ve reached out to them in private on Twitter and pinged them in public on Twitter. No reaction.

What can I do?

Trying to edit / change the flight

I tried to change the flight, but there is no button to do so:

qatar – Where can I refill my water bottle at Doha (DOH) airport during the covid-19 pandemic?

The typical water refilling stations near the restroom appear to be closed:

enter image description here

I don’t know whether that’s the case for all water refilling stations or just the one I saw, and whether there exist other solutions to refilling one’s bottle without having to purchase a new water bottle.

Where can I refill my water bottle at Doha (DOH) airport during the covid-19 pandemic?

air travel – Can one cancel the return flight with Qatar Airways and if so, what is the fee?

The terms and conditions are pretty sparse and are not entirely conclusive. See https://www.qatarairways.com/en/travel-with-confidence.html#terms I’m sure there is a more detailed document, but can’t find it.

Can the passenger cancel the return flight with Qatar Airways and if so, what is the fee if any?

You can cancel the return flight. That would qualify as a change, not a cancellation. There is no change fee, but Qatar would reprise the itinerary as a one way and calculate the fare difference. If the one-way price is cheaper, you can get a refund on the difference. If it’s more expensive you actually have to pay additional money.

… when the return flight is canceled after (departure).

That’s less clear. I don’t see anything in the T&C that covers this case specifically.

However, in my experience (pre-covid, different airlines), this typically triggers a change fee but NOT a reprising of the itinerary. Hence doing a change or cancellation after departure has been significantly cheaper (and also recommended by friendly airline agents to me).
