world of darkness – Prime sphere requirements to use Tass in Mage 20th Anniversary Edition

I’m confused about what level of Prime is required to use Tass in the Mage 20th Anniversary Edition rules.

In the main rulebook the following statements are made:

M20 Rulebook:

  • p 332: “To absorb Quintessence energy from the materialized Quintessence of Tass requires Prime 3.”

  • p 520: Prime 1 sphere description says: “A beginning study of Prime allows the mage to perceive and channel Quintessence from Nodes, Tass, …”

  • p 520: Prime 3 sphere description says: “… the Prime-skilled mage can draw both free and raw Quintessence from Nodes, Junctures (special times) and Tass …”

How do you DO That Rulebook says:

  • pp. 43-45: “Any mage with an Avatar Background cab absorb that Background’s worth of Quintessence from a Node or Tass …”

First off – are there ways to use Tass other than absorbing the Quintessence into your pattern? Can you spend Tass to gain Quintessence effects like lowering the difficulty of a roll without absorbing it into your pattern?

And with regard to what levels of Prime are required to do these things, I can see support for any of these positions:

  1. You don’t need any Prime at all to absorb Quintessence from Tass into your pattern, as “Any mage with an Avatar Background” can do it (How do you DO That pp. 43-45)
  2. You need Prime 1, as the description for that sphere says Prime 1 allows you to channel Quintessence from Tass. (M20 p. 520)
  3. You need Prime 3, as that is stated on M20 p. 332 and p. 520 explicitly

I have reviewed other answers at: How does the Prime Sphere affect gaining and storing Quintessence in M20? but it left me more confused than enlightented.

From a gameplay perspective, requiring Prime 3 to use Tass seems to defeat much of the purpose of Tass – as it can’t be readily exchanged between mages as portable Quintessence unless they have Prime 3.

architecture – What are common architecturally significant requirements?

Refering to the definition, architecturally significant requirements are are those requirements that have a measurable effect on a computer system’s architecture. Based on this definition both hardware and software should be considered.

I have read about the strategies for finding these requirements, but I am somehow in obsession about considering all important and common case of them.

Some of common ones are:

  1. User-Friendliness (Easy to use UI)

  2. Security of the system

  3. Consistency of the data

  4. Response time

  5. Deployment on platforms

How about the other common cases? Can we list the most common ones here?

SQL Server: calculating memory requirements for Full db backups

In 2018, we inherited a production SQL Server 2012 FCI running on Windows 2012 with 32 GB RAM. SQL Server max server memory was set at 23.6 GB, and things were running fine.

However, in 2019, we migrated these databases to a SQL Server 2016 FCI. After this migration, our Full backups began intermittently failing due SQL Server restarts. The log seemed to indicate these restarts were due to low memory.

I noticed all of these SQL Server restarts only happened when a full backup was running for our biggest (~80 GB) db. (Incidentally, in case this matters, this db is set to simple recovery model. I have 4 other dbs in full recovery model on this instance: 10 GB, 110 MB, 100 MB, and 50 MB.)

Each time these “low memory restarts” occur, I have been incrementally increasing RAM and max memory. Currently, I’m at 56 GB RAM and max memory is at 45 GB.

From your experience, does it seem unusual for an 80 GB database to require 45 GB max memory during full backups? Can you please share any ideas how I can better identify how much memory my full backup truly needs? Unfortunately, I don’t have a non-production system with similar specs as this one.

Has anyone satisfied the UK fiancee/spouse visa financial requirements by working their foreign job remotely as someone self-employed in the UK?

I’m a UK citizen with a Japanese fiancee. We plan to get married in the UK, so we want to apply for his entry under the fiancee visa. However, we don’t meet the financial requirements yet — I’m searching for, but haven’t yet secured, a UK-based job. That said, I have a Japanese job that meets the income requirement and would be willing for me to work remotely.

I spoke to a Japanese visa firm who suggested it would be possible to count J-income if

  1. I paid tax on the income in the UK.
  2. I became self-employed in the UK and submitted that documentation.

However, it seems like the forms for the self-employed look to a past year of s.e. income, which I don’t have.

Tldr; Has anyone satisfied the UK fiancee/spouse visa financial requirements by working their foreign job remotely as someone self-employed in the UK?

dnd 5e – Does the Thief rogue’s Use Magic Device feature let them ignore class, race, and level requirements on attuning to magic items?

The Artificer’s Magic Item Savant feature states (E:RftLW p. 58, WGtE p. 180; emphasis mine):

(…) You ignore all class, race, spell, and level requirements on attuning to or using magic items.

In contrast, the Thief rogue’s Use Magic Device feature merely states:

(…) You ignore all class, race, and level requirements on the use of magic items.

The Use Magic Device feature doesn’t mention ignoring requirements on attuning to magic items, only on using them. It seems like that would mean a Thief rogue can not attune to a magic item if it has a specific requirement on who can attune to it (e.g. the holy avenger).

Does the Use Magic Device feature let a Thief rogue ignore class, race, and level requirements on attuning to magic items?

dnd 3.5e – How do the "alignment" subtypes interact with the alignment requirements of magic items?

Let's say we have an LG succubus (which therefore has chaotic and devilish subtypes). A thief of nine lives would be a bad weapon for her, because it gives negative levels to good handlers, and she alignment is good.

But what about the reverse? Chaotic and evil subtypes say that the creature suffers effects based on their "subtype alignment", so I guess solar blade would also make him experience the effect of a negative level. Using a magic object based on alignment requirements, however, is not covered by the subtype rules.

So, as an example, the succubus LG could use a enveloping pit (MiC p.159) in the following way?

If you are a lawful evil, a legal neutral evil or a neutral evil, a wrap-around well works like a portable hole, except that it is 50 feet deep.

It is legal, but is it considered bad for this purpose? And one fiendhelm (MiC p.99), which explicitly requires that the user be "misaligned", but has no requirements along the axis of legal chaos?

I haven't found any example of such an article, but what if it wants to handle something that only requires the user to be "evil", but does not have is the world "aligned" with this requirement?

e-commerce with specific features or requirements

I have a few customers who request ecommerce sites and each has their own need:

1. A customer has more than 1,000 products in ten categories. They need a platform that has a unique search filter for each category. Category A therefore searches on 4 fields while category B searches on 4 different fields.

2. A customer sells a few different products, but each product can have multiple sizes. I want to find an e-commerce platform that will allow me to create a page for each product. Somewhere on the page, I want to have a table. In each row, it would be the different sizes of this product. The columns would have a few fields and then I want there to be a text field area for the quantity the user wants to order and a button to add to the cart. This add to cart button can be either the last column or the bottom of the table.
SEMrush

Basically, I want to allow a user to order multiple sizes from a particular product on one page.

I know it is certainly possible, but I just need to know on which platforms I can do it. I've been looking for an example of this, but I can't find one that exactly matches what I want (but it's probabyl because I don't know the right industry or the right website to research).

3. A customer wishes to allow users to purchase registration for a conference or training online. Each would have a fixed date and time and a number of seats available for this session.

4. A customer already has a website but now wants to sell a few products (less than 5) but wants a simple basket and not just individual links to paypal or others.

I know I ask a lot in a message, but I figured it was better to do it in one thread than to start 4 different ones.

I appreciate all the advice and recommendations you have on these situations.

architecture – Which application layer should verify data requirements and validations?

I'm learning Software architecture and especially on scaffolding large scale architecture for modern web applications.

I noticed that I didn’t data / requirements validation template, Sometimes I do validations or checks () in the front end layer and others in the backend or in the database schemas but I see that there are some redundant ones.

Let's say you have an entry with a username and that username should have max 10 characters, as far as I know, validation in the front-end layer (client side) is sufficient without adding requirements / validations in a database for this property of our schema ( user in MongoDB).

My question how to organize or create a standard validation flow for a web application?

Thank you if you can recommend a practical book, a blog or a series of videos from an expert.

magento2 – Native m2 support or extensions recommended for wholesale site requirements

We have just moved to m2. In m1, we had to find a programmer to customize our site. We have a wholesale site and a retail site operating with the same data, at multiple stores.

We are looking for the least costly method of implementing the following for the wholesale site.

Matrix 1 size per product to order configurable variants in quantity by size

2-Possibility to order items currently out of stock

SKU with 3 displays in catalog view

4-Hide prices for unregistered users, display "login to view prices" instead of adding to cart for all items in the category and detailed view, including products out of stock.

5-remove the display "out of stock" in the category and detailed view

6 multiple stores, hide out of stock items in one store, show them in the other
