I have recently reinstalled Windows 10, Avira Free Antivirus and Office 2010.
Now, when I try to open the VBA IDE from a new Word document, the following message appears:
Word has encountered a problem.
A problem occurred while saving the file.
with some of the possible causes listed below, such as missing disk space, low RAM memory, or missing permissions; None of them is relevant.
The only thing that could be relevant is:
This error can also occur if the computer is running a version of the antivirus software that is incompatible with Microsoft Office or needs to be updated.
As stated, I use Avira Free Antivirus and AFAICT, the antivirus is updated.
Once the message is rejected, the VBA IDE window opens, but there is no project available and most menu items are disabled.
Save a document with the
.docm extension before opening the IDE VBA does not help.
There are strange results comparable when you try to open the VBA IDE from other applications:
- Excel lists three projects Project 1, project2 and project3, but without the usual object tree under each project (class modules, standard modules, etc.) and without the ThisWorkbook node.
- PowerPoint does the same thing as Word – no project at all – but without error.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall VBA through the Office Setup program.
The security settings are configured to disable macros with a warning. The old behavior of the IIRC was to disable macros unless I explicitly allowed them for the specific document. Trust the object model for each application is checked.
I've been looking for a setting to control this in Avira, without success.
The register does not contain the
VBAOff key described here.
How can I enable VBA for Office applications?
